PROFESSIONAL GOALS OVERVIEW

 

There a many definitions of A GOAL; however for this workbook's purposes, a goal is defined as the desired outcome of a set of actionsGoals are general and the end result; the ultimate outcome or place of achievement. An OBJECTIVE is a specific step toward a goal. Objectives are measurable actions or specific tasks.  RESOURCES are what you will need to implement the objectives. 

TIME LINE is the duration to implement and evaluation progress. LOGISTICS PLANNING are changes that need to be made and any costs that are involved.

SETTING PROFESSIONAL GOALS and objectives provides a measurable pathway to the successful completion of a professional achievement.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES ARE A MAP that can be followed via a determinate pathway that will allow a clear picture of where you want to go (GOAL) and the ways/methods(OBJECTIVES) of how you will get there.


GOAL SETTING PROCESS

Make goals clear and detailed. 

  • Become head preschool teacher.

Decide why you want to achieve this.

  • Prestige.  A sense of personal or professional accomplishment
  • Make more money
  • A strategic step toward another higher promotion (assistant supervisor)

Define how you will measure success. 

  • A promotion to head preschool teacher.

Make sure your objectives are relevant (they will lead to incremental gains toward the goal).

  • Review head preschool teacher job experience, education and duties requirements.
  • Review and reflect on current experience, education and duties and list any shortfalls.
  • Obtain more education, experience and duties if required.
  • Update resume to reflect achievement of head preschool teacher required education, experience and duties.
  • Apply to at least three head preschool teacher jobs.

Set a realistic timeline.

  • Over the next year: June to June
